Manufacturing sector likely to generate more than 3 Million Jobs during 2012-17

According to a recent study by ASSOCHAM, the Indian manufacturing industry is likely to create nearly 3.2 million jobs during the 12th Plan period (2012-17). With the improved economy, the Indian manufacturing sector is on the path of revival and likely to improve its employment prospects significantly than the 11th Plan period (2007-12).

The study also found that the Indian manufacturing industry registered 28.5 growth in employment during the 11th Plan period (2007-12) and in the process generated an additional 2.9 million jobs in the registered manufacturing sector. Tamil Nadu topped the list with 14.5 %  share of the total jobs generated  followed by Maharashtra  and Gujarat with 14% and 10% respectively.

While Uttarkhand topped the list in terms of employment generation across India followed by  BiIhar, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra with high growth rate, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh,Haryana, Kerala and Punjab recorded the slowest growth rate.
